Extending Vim and Emacs With Python
Sunday October 28, 2007
One of the characteristics of any good text editor is extensibility. If you cannot extend it, it will not grow with you, and you are at the mercy of the developers to make it what you want it to be. In this vein, you may have read the recent posts on Emacs and Vim and wondered how they can be extended. Emacs, of course, is written in and extensible with Lisp. But who uses Lisp anymore? If we are programming Python, why can't we just extend our favourite editor with our favourite language?
Fortunately, now you can. Emacs has had Python support in the form of Pymacs for a while now. But recently, Python support for Vim was announced, too.
