'Tis the Season...to Program Python Merrily

Saturday November 8, 2008
Christmas Tree from About.com's Python Guide
Every year around this time, the tradition on this site is to swap out the popular "Hello, World!" tutorial for a seasonal variant. So this year you or someone you know can learn to program Python using a seasonal greeting instead of the standard. While "'Merry Christmas!': A Quick Tour of Python" will still you get you up-and-running with Python in 2 hours or less, it does contain some different elements from the traditional. Not only does it pay tribute to each of the three monotheistic religions that have a major festival this time of year, it also allows you to choose in which of three languages you say it - English, French, or German. So instead of "Merry Christmas!", you can choose "Happy Channukah!" or "Fröhliche Ramadan!". And, once through the tutorial, you can customise the program to contain your choice of greetings.
